It would be great if Picard could provide new mappings for artist and release comments. For id3, something like "COMM:artist" or "COMM:artist_description" could be used, for other tagging systems something new must be found (e.g. "artistcomment").
The use case is, I sometimes have releases with the same name (single/lp, reissue, different language version with same title, etc.), and sometimes even artists with the same name. I want to implement a feature in my favorite audio player, that it displays the artist/release comment if there is a name clash (but not in other cases!).
I'm marking the ticket as "decision required", because it has to be decided what tags to use.

I think that if you want to display text in your player, then you need to use Comment.
I assume that by "artist and release comments" we are talking about disambiguation text in MusicBrainz.
At present the release comment is already put into ~releasecomment. Artist comment does not look like it is put into metadata, and I have not yet verified whether MB provides such as disambiguation in the xml. I think we should at a minimum try to put the artist disambiguation into a variable.
However I am less certain whether we should create a Comment tag as standard for any of the disambiguations. My vote would be for wiki examples of how to set new comment:Release Comment etc. variables in tagger scripts.
Closing as very old and user can achieve this using tagging scripts.
