Currently the documentation for the Release Country explains only what kind of data goes there, not the intent or best practices of using the field.

What I think the documentation needs is examples of several use cases for country specific releases for physical media, worldwide releases for digital media, and an example covering a region-locked digital release as well.

Any other use cases that should be covered?

Just to mention it, there's no consensus about how release countries should be used for digital media (online) releases. I added a few links to lengthy forum threads.

On Bandcamp for physical releases I look at what the currency the CD/vinyl/etc is being listed under to determine the country.

There should be some clarification on whether or not it's acceptable to use [Worldwide] for physical releases sold exclusively online. I've seen editors argue that physical releases sold only online (i.e. not available in brick-and-mortar stores) should be set to [Worldwide] since they theoretically* can be shipped anywhere in the world.

*I say theoretically because some online retailers do not ship internationally, and sometimes releases are banned in certain countries so shipping them there would be illegal (making them unavailable in those countries).
