I find it very awkward to classify all of my exotica as "lounge", since exotica is a clearly-defined genre with a specific sound and feel which is distinctly different from the general lounge style.  I find that I have to hand-classify music as exotica to keep it seperate from lounge, and I feel exotica should have it's own genre in musicbrainz.

[To a lesser-extent, I also think "space age pop" should be recognised by musicbrainz for similar reasons as indicated here, though it could be included as a form of exotica]

Exotica is the original genre which has been relegated to what is now generically desctribed as Lounge music. However, the lounge genre is too general, and includes far more ordinary-sounding easy-listening jazz spread out over several decades.

Exotica is well-known as a genre, and keeping it distinct from lounge is important for listers and collectors when organising and listening to their collection.  Lacking exotica as a genre is inhibiting enjoyment of the style.

By including the exotica genre, a specific location would exist for classic exotica from the 1950's and 1960's, as well as for 1990's exotica revival groups, and also current bands like the Tikiyaki Orchestra, Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica, Martini Kings, Kenny Sasaki & The Tiki Boys, Ìxtahuele, Clouseaux and many other popular modern groups.
