Proposed addition to Style/Artist:
Eponymous Groups
An eponymous group is a group named after one of its members, usually the group's leader. In most cases, a separate artist should be created for the group, with an "eponymous member of" relationship to the namesake person.
However, some eponymous "groups" exist only for one or two studio sessions, or a single live performance. In such cases it's acceptable to credit releases to the eponymous member using an artist credit.
Examples:
Manfred Mann is an eponymous member of Manfred Mann
Duke Ellington is an eponymous member of Duke Ellington & His Orchestra
Buckethead, Les Claypool, Bryan “Brain” Mantia and Bernie Worrell are all eponymous members of Colonel Claypool’s Bucket of Bernie Brains
Two singles recorded in the same session and released by the Charles Mingus Sextette (here and here) have their artist as: Charles Mingus credited as Charles Mingus Sextette . The "Sextette" never existed as an ongoing group.
The name Thelonious Monk Sextet was used for the output of two recording sessions, five years apart, which feature no musicians in common other than Monk himself. These recordings can be properly listed as Thelonious Monk credited as Thelonious Monk Sextet.
The name Gene Autry Trio appeared on three sides from three separate single releases; the other sides were credited to Gene Autry or to Autry and Jimmy Long. The artist for these sides should be Gene Autry credited as Gene Autry Trio.
