The first two paragraphs of https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Release currently says,
A MusicBrainz release represents the unique release (i.e. issuing) of a product on a specific date with specific release information such as the country, label, barcode and packaging. If you walk into a store and purchase an album or single, they are each represented in MusicBrainz as one release.
Each release belongs to a release group and contains at least one medium (commonly referred to as a disc when talking about a CD release). Each medium has a tracklist.
I propose rewriting it as,
A MusicBrainz release represents the unique release (i.e. issuing) of a product containing at least one audio medium (commonly referred to as a disc). A release has identifying properties such as a release date, country, label, barcode and packaging.
If you walk into a store and see the normal edition of an album next to a deluxe edition of that album, they are each represented in MusicBrainz as a separate release, belonging to the same release group.
Reasons:
- This changes the first sentence to hint that MusicBrainz has a scope.
- This improves the "walk into a store" example to also explain what a Release Group is.
