It's a lot of tedious duplication to add release-level credits to all editions of a release.  Allowing these release-level performing credits to be added to the release group level would be no worse than how a recording aggregates copyright information across mutually exclusive releases/masters.

This assumes, of course, that editors adhere to logical separation of release groups (translated release groups, re-recorded release groups, etc.)
