I think that MB should have an Awards entity. I see this as working with two entities, Awards and Awards Categories.

Awards would work much like a Series does, it would relate primarily to Award Categories. Awards collect Award Categories, which in turn collect award winning entities (Award ↔︎ Award Category ↔︎ Entity). I want a separate entity for award categories so that new ones can be added as needed, and we can reuse them on various awards. We could also then have a handy list of everything that won "Album of the Year" across all awards for example.

While awards can be related to any category, categories can only be associated with one specific type of entity like Series currently do. So "Album of the Year" would be related to release groups. The date field should be used for the time period of the award, not when it was awarded. Year would typically get used, so you have your "2015" thing of the year, 2014 thing of the year, and so on. The month field would be used for things like "Pick of the Month", e.g. "Pick of the Month February 2015". Day is also in there because 1, who wants to invent a new date handler, and 2, there could very well be a daily award/pick that someone may want to enter into the database.

So the relationship would look something like this:

Ideally, I'd also like to include event, as most awards are handed out at a ceremony.
