In Indian art music the lineage of teacher to student is very important. In CompMusic we have a lot of this information given to us by experts that we would like to move upstream.

I guess it would look something like:
ArtistA (is|was) a student of ArtistB
ArtistB (is|was) a teacher of ArtistA

This could likely be used in many other types of music. For me, Jazz comes to mind (though most of the time I think "teaching" was done by being a member of another's group, and not as a specific teacher-student relationship)

It should also suit non-musicians, for example, if someone interned as a recorder or producer under another well-known producer, or if a music printer apprenticed with someone.
