MBS-7489 has considerably lowered the barriers to merging artists. However, there doesn't seem to be a clear consensus how far we should go with this.

Style/Artist/With multiple names used to be a how-to when to use what, but which was largely left to everyone's own interpretation. It has been heavily condensed into two lines of Style/Artist and a few examples, which however don't touch some more contentious cases like legal names.

Our terminology page on Aliases and the accompanying guideline are also relevant to this discussion, as it outlines several cases where we already wouldn't enter different artist entries in the past. reo snuck in a "sometimes" in the section about different performance names, but arguably a "usually" would be more reflective of current practices.
