First, the situation that makes sense: When viewing a release with a track whose work is based on another work, it makes sense to mention the original work inline, i.e. this makes sense to me:

However, that relationship ALSO appears inline in the OTHER direction, which means when you view a release with a track whose work has been interpreted widely, the track shows up in the tracklist looking like this:

Of course it makes sense to list all of those links if you were to click through to view the work's detail page, but, does it really make sense to list all that in the tracklist of a release that has a recording of the original work? Is this information that people would be hoping to see at a glance of the entire tracklist of the original release?

In short: in my opinion, the "translated", "parody", "medley", "arrangement", and "basis" relationships (and maybe others?) should continue to show inline in tracklists in their "based on" direction, but not in their "is the basis for" direction. People who actually are looking for information about later uses of the work—i.e., uses of the work that do NOT have anything to do with the release whose page they're reading!—should see it by clicking through to the work's page to view its details.
