As reported by foo in their pull request #3042, the JS compilation script may fail if translations are not installed even though no MB UI language is enabled.

The cause of the issue seems to be that Webpack is listing MB UI languages from files in the po/ directory instead of referring to the DBDefs. Since the move to Weblate, there are a lot more files in the po/ directory than actually enabled MB UI languages.
