If several editors get together it's possible to push through an edit in a short period of time, which can prevent subscribed editors from being aware of the edit until it's already closed, and the damage done. The suggested improvement is to enforce a minimum voting period sufficient to permit all subscribers of an entity to receive their standard "Edits for your subscriptions" e-mail, and have some time to respond.
Since the "Edits for your subscriptions" e-mails are sent out once a day, a reasonable minimum voting period would be two days. This will ensure that even if an edit is put in shortly after edit e-mails have been sent out, subscribed editors will have at least a full day to vote on any edits.
This improvement would avoid contentious edits such as https://musicbrainz.org/edit/31654441 from being accepted without all subscribed editors being given a chance to review the edit and an opportunity to vote on it. This particular edit closed less than four hours after being created. Since it closed before the usual "Edits for your subscriptions" e-mail went out, editors relying on the e-mail to be notified of such edits missed the boat.
