I've suggested MusicBrainz as a solution to my friends a few times online, who need to get their music collection sorted out a bit. However, it's a completely new concept to them, and explaining the idea of an online distributed metadata-database doesn't quite "click" with them on first go.
Today I had a friend who needed a way to rename all his MP3s to Artist - Title.mp3 and I suggested MusicBrainz, as he would then have good metadata. I briefly explained to put files in the left, then look them up, and then save them, and that he should look through the preferences to make sure it's all setup to his liking.
However, he did try and look up files on the right-hand side, and didn't quite understand the concept of the two panes, until I explained them. Also, he was expecting files to be renamed (arguably my fault for a bad introduction to Picard), but this doesn't happen by default.
What I propose is that we have a very brief, possibly modal, dialog on first run, prompting the user to specify if they want files moved or not, etc. Also, on the final "page" of this dialog, we could have a mock screen shot of Picard, with the key features pointed out to them, to help them get going easier.
