It is not possible to load and edit large libraries without crashing Picard. Users must therefore load files in batches. This is time consuming, and particularly annoying when the files are already matched, but are being loaded to check for updates, because no user interaction is needed other than to save the files with updates. It would therefore be useful if Picard could automatically remove perfect releases (like the existing plugin, i.e. no * next to tracks) automatically as files are being loaded. This would prevent Picard from keeping loaded files which are not needed, slowing itself down and/or eventually crashing. In combination with PICARD-556, this feature would improve the usability of Picard with large libraries.
An alternative approach would be to add an 'Update Directory' feature. This would do the same as above, but automatically save any changes on the fly, then remove the updated files. This would be the most convenient approach, as the user would simply have to select the directory, then all matched files would be updated and saved automatically, without any need for user interaction.
