It is currently possible to indicate that an artist is "named after" a work, but not the opposite.
There are many works that are named after artists for some of the following reasons:
- The artist composed the work, but when it is known, but then we can use "composer";
- The work is a dedication to the artist, but then we can use "dedication";
- The work has been heard to be played by the artist;
- The artist liked the work.
The issue is when it is unknown for which exact reason(s) a work is named after an artist. This knowledge has sometimes even been lost for a long time. It is actually very frequent in Irish traditional music. For example, only 3 over 30 tunes that have mostly been called at least once after the surname "Murphy" have a known composer.
This idea came up in notes to edit #95068412.
