We will need to check both Windows version and registry value, and (judging by the error messages I have seen) we may need to get Mutagen to do the same.
Alternatively for Windows we might wish to switch to using "\\?\full-path" notation to avoid the limit (though we should only do this if the O/S supports >260 characters otherwise the path might be inaccessible to players etc.
P.S. I guess this also assumes basic support in Python for this functionality.
P.P.S. We should probably put an info message in the log at start time saying whether this is enabled or not.
P.P.P.S. Do we want to provide functionality to enable this if it is available? Or is this outside the scope of Picard?
